About the journal
The Journal of Statistical Ecology publishes research at the interface between ecology and statistics. It welcomes statistical methods development to answer ecological questions as well as rigorous and insightful applications of statistics to ecological datasets to yield new knowledge.
Subfields of interest include—but are not limited to—abundance estimation, capture-recapture, population and community dynamics, interaction networks, disease and evolutionary ecology, ecosystem and landscape modelling, movement modelling, species distribution modelling, data integration, biodiversity monitoring, conservation and management.
The journal is open to a variety of statistical approaches, from inferential to exploratory statistics, from frequentist to Bayesian statistical philosophies.
Publishing model
All articles in Journal of Statistical Ecology are published in Diamond Open Access under a CC-BY licence. There are no author fees to publish and no fees to read. The journal functions with support from public institutions, currently CNRS and INRAE. Please reach out to the editors-in-chief if you belong to an institution wishing to contribute. The journal title is owned by a non-profit (French law 1901) established by editorial board members, Journal of Statistical Ecology Association.
Background
The journal was born out of discussions within the French research network on ecological statistics in 2021, and builds on the global community of the International Statistical Ecology Conferences (ISEC). The Journal of Statistical Ecology was created with two goals in mind: first, provide a high-quality outlet for articles at the interface between the two disciplines, and second, allow members of its global community to benefit from a fair publishing model. The journal logo conveys our interest for diverse organisms and ecosystems, and was designed by Ashley Latimer.
